Madinah's attractions:
Medina was founded more than 1,500 years before the Prophet's migration, and was known before the advent of Islam as "Yathrib". It is located in the west of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, about 400 km from Mecca in the northeast direction, and about 150 km east of the Red Sea. The closest port to it is Yanbu Port, which is located in the southwest of it and is 220 km away. The area of Madinah is about 589 km², of which 99 km² is occupied by the urban area, while the rest of the area is outside the urban area, and consists of mountains, valleys, flood slopes, desert and agricultural lands, cemeteries, and parts of the highway network. The Emirate of Madinah Region includes, in addition to Madinah, 8 other governorates, which are: Yanbu, Al-Ula, Badr, Al-Hanakiyah, Mahd Adh-Dhahab, Khaybar, Al-Ays, and Wadi Al-Far`
Madinah derives its importance to Muslims from the migration of the Prophet Muhammad to it and his residence there for the rest of his life. The city contains many landmarks and monuments, many valleys, wells, streets, neighborhoods, and old alleys.
Medina contains three of the oldest mosques in the world, and the most important to Muslims, namely:
The Prophet’s Mosque: which is considered the second holiest mosque for Muslims after the Grand Mosque in Mecca. It is the mosque that the Prophet Muhammad built in Medina after his migration in the year 1 AH corresponding to 622 AD next to his house after building the Quba Mosque. Prayer in it is equivalent to 1000 prayers in any other mosque. It also contains the Rawdah Sharifah, as narrated in the Prophetic Hadith (Between my house and my pulpit is a garden from the gardens of Paradise, and my pulpit is on my pond).
The Quba Mosque: The first mosque built in Islam. Its foundation stone was laid by our Prophet with his blessed hands, and its structure was raised by the Muhajireen and Ansar. God explained its virtue in a Quran that will be recited until the Day of Judgment: “A mosque founded on piety from the first day is more worthy of worship.” “That you stand in it.” The greatest mosque in Islam after the three mosques, located in the land of Bani Amr ibn Awf of the Ansar, today it is connected to the Prophet’s Mosque by a pedestrian path extending 3 km, the people of Medina and its visitors go to it to pray and worship in it following the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and seeking reward. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to go to it every Saturday riding and walking to pray in it, and he, peace and blessings be upon him, said, explaining the virtue of going to it and praying in it: (Whoever purifies himself in his house, then comes to the Quba Mosque, and prays two rak’ahs in it; It was like Umrah)
And the Mosque of the Two Qiblas: One of the most important historical mosques in Medina, in which God honored His Prophet and pleased him and fulfilled his hope and desire, by changing the direction of his prayer from Jerusalem to the Holy Kaaba, so his eyes were comforted by the revelation of his Lord: {So We will surely turn you to a direction with which you will be pleased}, the mosque is located northwest of Medina, near Al-Aqeeq, and was known as the Mosque of Bani Salamah because it is located in their homes, and they are a branch of the Ansar, then it was called the Mosque of the Two Qiblas because the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, came to their neighborhood and prayed with them, and it happened that the order came to change from Jerusalem to the Kaaba while he was standing praying the noon prayer in it as an imam with his companions, so he prayed with the Muslims two rak’ahs facing Jerusalem, then completed the remaining two rak’ahs facing the Sacred Mosque, so that this mosque became one of the monuments that bear witness to one of the most important events in the history of Muslims
Al-Baqi Cemetery: Which is considered the main cemetery for the people of The city, where many of the companions were buried.
Mount Uhud: This mountain extends as a chain from east to west, and leans towards the north, with an estimated length of 7 km, width of 2-3 km, and a height of 1077 m. The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, often used it as an example of its great size, as he said in praise of his companions: “By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, if one of you spent the equivalent of Uhud in gold, it would not reach the level of one of them or half of it.
One of the greatest battles of Islam took place near it, which is the Battle of Uhud, in which 70 companions were martyred, including the Master of Martyrs Hamza bin Abdul Muttalib, may God be pleased with him.
The boundaries of the sanctuary of Medina are located within the area between Mount Ayr to the south, Mount or Jable Thawr to the north, the eastern Harrat to the east, and the western Harrat to the west. The boundaries of the sanctuary are the area where hunting, cutting trees, and non-Muslims are prohibited.
